Electric parking brakes have become a standard feature in modern vehicles, offering much easier operation compared to traditional handbrakes. So, how does an electric parking brake work?
The Electric Parking Brake (EPB) system is very easy to use—simply press or pull the switch lightly to activate it. Once the system is engaged, the car will remain stationary thanks to the braking force, and the “P” symbol will appear on the switch and on the dashboard. To disengage the brake, just press the brake pedal and press the switch down, and the symbol will turn off, indicating that the brake has been released.
Advantages of Electric Parking Brakes:
- High Braking Force: The electric parking brake offers strong braking power, so you don’t need to worry about the car rolling.
- Anti-Forget Feature: The system will automatically release the brake when you shift into Drive (D) or Reverse (R) and press the accelerator.
- Auto Brake Hold: This feature holds the brake automatically when you stop the car temporarily or at a red light. It will keep the car stationary until you press the accelerator, at which point the brake will release.
